Warwickshire 7s - Join the Isle of Wight Blat 2009
Warwickshire 7s join the Wightblat 2009
Friday 3rd April saw the start of the Wightblat 2009. The 3rd Wightblat
Jamie and I travelled in my Caterham 7 Crossflow to Lymington where we met with several other members of the Warwickshire 7’s and friends from other areas.
The weather was overcast and had a chill in the air on the journey down. However when we were boarding the ferry the weather changed and out came the sunshine and it was here to stay (well nearly!!).
We arrived in Yarmouth and set out for a pub lunch. We went to a small village called Knighton and returned to a lovely pub that we had visited on the 2007 Wightblat.
After lunch we headed for the Whitcliffe Bay Holiday Park which was our accommodation for the weekend.
Friday evening was a Fish and Chip supper with a male singer as entertainment and a great evening was had by all. Several drinks were consumed and a number of people made it to the dance floor. In some cases I feel that the time of the dance floor may have been as a result of the number of drinks – no names mentioned …
We woke on Saturday morning to rain but this soon disappeared and the covers were off, the engines were running and the Warwickshire 7’s were off to explore the Isle of Wight. In the morning we visited Osborne House, the Magnificent countryside retreat of Queen Victoria, where we enjoyed a bite of lunch before heading round to Alum Bay where we enjoyed a glass making demonstration and a look at the famous Needles while enjoying an Ice Cream (For those that don’t know I am a little partial to Ice Cream)
Saturday evening saw the Wightblat raffle which was a great success. Having sold all the tickets very early in the evening the raffle started a little later than planned as more tickets were obtained so all who wanted to purchase them could. The members of Warwickshire 7’s very lucky, winning a number of prizes including a selection of Isle of Wight Beers, an LED headlight for working underneath the car when both hands are full, a set of tools and a FREE Haircut at an Isle of Wight Barbers. The last prize was donated to the Wightblat team as a small thank you for a great weekend.
Sunday was our 3rd and final day. Having watched the start of the Malaysian Grand Prix we took part in the group photo which included Caterham Cars R300, R400 and the R500 that was recently shown on Top Gear with The Stig at the wheel (see homepage picture). Following the group photo we made a visit to Bembridge followed by lunch at Fox and Hounds. This was the final organised meeting place which saw people leaving at various times to catch their ferries back to the mainland.
4.00pm on Sunday saw our departure from Yarmouth having squeezed in one final ice cream before leaving the island.
It is clear to say that everyone from Warwickshire 7’s and friends from other areas had a great time. It was great to have Caterham Cars supporting the event with a number of staff on hand to offer advice and assistance and to display 3 of the latest fantastic Caterham 7 Models.
Finally, we would like to thank Alex, Simon, Dizz, there respective partners and all the members of Wight 7’s for organising yet another great event.
Thanks again and see you in 2010.
